Fact of life.
More people shooting at you = faster death.
Also, for empirical testing sake, start paying attention to all the times that you get hit and don't die.
My guess is that when we are talking about TTK, we are getting into loss aversion territory. We've invested time and isk into better gear, and because it is ours, we feel that our investments should somehow payoff proportional to their magnitude of somebody else's. We tend to complain A LOT MORE when we lose things rather than when we get them. Likewise, I think we feel the pain of losing a suit a lot more than we feel the pleasure of surviving what we should have lost...
Think about it this way...
You are running across the field where you know their is a 750k isk tank blazing blaster rounds, 4 of which will eat you alive. You luckily escape by managing to only absorb two. Do you sit there and complain that the tank had spent 50 times more isk and should have been able to justifiably wipe you out since it was so much more expensive? No. You don't really think twice when you escape the glancing blow of bullet spray that doesn't take you down. You don't really think about TTK in all those instances that you HAVE survived an encounter. How many times did you dodge a grenade? How many gun battles have you been in where both sides were able to reload at least once?
How can we possibly balance TTK if everyone is starting to play in squads better, concentrating fire better, picking squad doctrines better, communicating better etc. The result is that there will be LOTS of instances where you just draw the short straw and you find yourself exposed in open terrain with your back to the enemy. To suggest that you should have the time to spin around and engage in a fair fight against him is a little silly.
In my opinion, TTK is an economic balance problem. I'm hoping the isk sink of FW will mean that a lot fewer players are running expensive gear in pub matches, which will even out the playing field. |

This game use to be where if you were shot in the back you had time to react and if you had a higher skill level you were able to kill the guy and laugh at his corpse. Now its instant death.
I just can't complain about this. If someone has the skill to flank you, then that is skill. Gunplay isn't the only skill that should be rewarded.
This is the crux of the TTK debate:
The greater the TTK, the less tactics matter.
If you can eventually tank a whole squad's ammo through strafing and low DPS rates, then why worry about cover, or flanking, or elevation etc. If they adjust TTK it would only have to be ever so slightly. |
